Morality is based on ethics, so no.

I don't think so because ethics comes from moral behavior. The problem though is defining what morality is. Not so easy anymore in this society. Wait until you get your responses. Whatever way you look at it I don't believe morality can exist without ethic behavior.

Yes. Morality is what a person, or group of people, know to be right or wrong. Ethics is different.

The important thing to remember about morality (or moralities, because different people/s have their own notions) is that they are based on a bunch of different things. most of which are (to simplify) basic human education. Thus, while many people might feel frustration about being blocked by the little old lady on the sidewalk, and even briefly wish she were gone, few of us submit to the urge to push her under the oncoming bus. Our reasons for not providing the fateful shove are not because a) God will see us and punish us, or b) because the police may catch us. Rather, we do not push the old lady because it is reflexively repulsive for us to do so; in fact, even thinking about it is sort of gross. (Thanks to John Ralston Saul for pointing this out).

In contrast "ethics" is an academic discipline involved in the tricky matter of deploying rational adjudication in order to determine the consistency and veracity of various moral statements.

Most people don't understand the previous paragraph at all: please look at it again and I will continue.

So (for example): one may operate within a moral environment which holds that human life is so precious that it must be sustained at all costs. An ethicist might legitimately question whether the deployment of a family's resources towards the perpetuation of a patriarch's life at the cost of impoverishing future generations is a legitimate and consistent option when close considerations of "family" and "resources" are brought into play. And an ethicist may come to conclusions drastically in contrast to the majority moral reflex.

Thus "morality" and "ethics" are very different. Some of us confuse them, and accordingly you might hear expressions such as "we need more ethics around here" when in actual fact what people really mean is that they wish that people would play by the stated rules (i.e.; that they would behave morally.)

So the short answer is that morals can exist without ethics because people can have notions about what is right or wrong without seriously thinking about them. Children for example make moral distinctions without a lot of reflection; I daresay many people suspect the current administration in the White House to be almost equally autonomic in its regard of Good Persons and Evildoers. (Note this is written September 2007).

On the other hand, one cannot have ethics without morals because ethicists need moral phenomena to observe and comment upon.

Sorry for the drawn-out response, but yours is a seriously important and interesting question.

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this.

Morality is a judgement based on ethics, right?

Where do ethics come from?
Where do morals come from?
How do we make the laws the guide our lives?
God gave man laws.
Man accepts or rejects God's laws.
Man rejects God's laws.
Man creates his own morals and ethics.
Man accepts God's laws
Man attempts to follow God's laws as rules for morals and ethics.

All legal systems are legislated morality. The question is what or whose morality is going to be the basis for the legal system.

Morals, what are used to determine right from wrong.
Ethics, rules used to govern existence.

Do you think it is morally right for you to be dressed like that in a place where children spend time? Some people may report you for that, and you would loose your account. Yahoo does not send any email mails to warn anyone that their account maybe delete, that is why I am telling you so that you have time to change it, before someone reports you. †

No. With out God and understanding of His law there is no morality. A person with out ethics has no fear of God and will do what they please with out realizing that they will have to account for their deeds when they stand before their maker. I pray that all who are lost may hear God's truth and love this day.
