There are many different causes for the insomnia that you are experiencing. Diet, stress, and other medical condtions can cause this as well. Sometimes just a simple lifestyle change, to a complete checkup by your Doctor could be in order. How about the mattress??? Too hard, soft??? I have a problem with sleeping medications, but for other people, it works. Good luck.

Seeing a doctor would be an obvious answer and there is a good possibility that you might be having a medical condition like stress which is causing this.
Howoever, there is something which I want to add on. There is a chance that your are trying too hard to sleep and the only thought that is coming to your mind is that I hope I do not wake up in the middle of night. The subconscious mind is very powerful but it does not understand negatives. So when you think 'I hope it does not happen' - according to Murphy's law it will happen more often than not.
I would also like to advice you to get your hands on a good meditation book or any other resource on meditation which really helps - my personal experience. Just don't worry too much about the sleep. While going to sleep just visualize (this is important) yourself waking up afresh and healthy and trust if you have the belief you will surely have a good sleep.. maybe not on the first day but in a few days..
All the best..

The best thing to do would probably be going to see a doctor to prescribe some sleeping medication to help you sleep the whole night. I have problem sleeping to, I find it better if I just dont worry about getting to sleep and staying asleep. I usually go to sleep around 12 or 1, take about an hour to get to sleep, then wake up around 6 or 7. It happens to everyone. I usually get more sleep when I dont worry about getting enough. Try this site....

have you considered your diet being responsible? i mean certain drinks/foods can cause this to happen. keep a log of what you're eating and drinking in the evening. a bit of excersise an hour before bed may help as well. there are also some foods and beverages that can actually help you to relax a bit better, enabling you to sleep better. you can google foods to help you sleep. lots of stuff will come up. when all else fails, see your doc or try a pm painreliever or benedryl

No No's- drinking too much alcohol before bed. Drinking coffee and tea after mid day. stressing out over things. too much stimulation in bedroom (lose the TV and radio etc) loud or sudden noises, too hot or cold in bed? Eating stmulants like chilli for dinner, changing your bed time a lot.
Do Do's- routine same every night. Light reading in bed with lamp, little or no alcohol, camomile tea or room tem water, relaxation visualisations and deep slow breathing. Comfortable in bed. Sort out any worrisome issues prior to going to bed. fresh air in room
also, apparently we all have a few sleep windows of opportunity- yours might be an hour before or after you've been putting yourself to bed. Listen to your body. If you start to feel tired, even if its 8;30pm- go to bed!
Good luck

Are you on any new meds? Either prescription or over the counter? Any weight loss ones are famous for doing this to you so watch it if you are taking anything like that.
Sleep is more important than people realize, especially uninterrupted sleep. If the situation doesn't improve or you are not taking any new medications, go see your doctor as soon as you can and discuss it, its important!!

Avoid caffeine after lunchtime, and don't exercise in the evening. Also, don't watch tv before bed in the dark...leave the lights on while you're awake so your body learns that dark means you're supposed to be sleeping. Hope these tips help!
