Well don't make generalizations about atheists based on what only a few do.

You're making a generalization that is not accurate. I hate to tell you this, but Christians are as good at this as anyone. They may even perhaps even the champions at it, but regardless of whoever does it, it is ridiculous and juvenile. I have given meaningless and facetious answers to questions and won the Best Answer points from people, Christians, who apparently only want someone to tell them how brilliant or correct they are. Questioners like this, regardless of their beliefs, are not the least bit interested in what anyone has to say but are preaching their point of view and are looking for nothing but a pat on the back. When my questions are such that I know exactly what I think, I let others vote for the Best Answer. I don't need someone else's approval to validate what I think, but many people here, believers and nonbelievers alike, apparently do. It happens in every section of this site, but especially in religion and politics, where there is no actual best answer, only opinions.
October made a good point and it also happens in reverse. An antagonistic questioner addressing one group of people will choose an answer form his own camp, who was not actually even invited to answer the question, over carefully thought out responses. It's quite frustrating to spend the time to write a thoughtful serious answer, only to learn that the asker has no interest at all in what you have to say.

She asked a valid question and recieved no valid answers, is that fair? Look at the question, she responded to each person who answered and explained how their reply was not a real answer.
She asked why people believe in something without proof and all she got back was a bunch of nonsense.

It's her question. She can ask genuinely and seek responses, or she can just wait for someone to tell her she's completely right and tickle her ears. She has the right to be motivated by inquiry or by a search for validation. But her choice shows all of us what her motivation is.
I miss the days when we could rate the questions!
And I don't think it's fair to ask why "atheists" are like this. Christians do the same thing, as do muslims, homosexuals, proponents of greenhouse gasses causing global warming, opponents of the same.... There are always people of every group who are petty and just want to be validated.

While I don't agree with her choosing the "GREAT QUESTION!!" answer, she didn't actually receive any valid answers. She asked for evidence for the JudeoChristian god and received none except biblical passages, claims that faith is all you need and suggestions that the evidence is "clear" and "in front of us" when it obviously isn't.
This is nowhere near as bad as the constant array of creationists that ask idiotic "why are there still monkeys" style questions, receive a ton of relevant answers and then pick the one that says something along the lines of "Evolution doesn't exist" and add the comment that they agree.

Why are Atheists like this?
Why are Christians like this?
I hate it when people demote and sterotype others. Not ALL Athiests are like this or that, and not all Christians are like this or that. There are intelligent Christians, and dumb Christians, same goes with athiests. Also, just because the person asking the question just happens to be a 'dumb' athiest, it doesn't mean every single one is. =/

Not all of them are like that. I've met some atheists who accept my belief in God and do not ridicule or belittle me. They've just chosen a different path. It's people like the one you're talking about that give atheists a bad name. However they do provide a lot of Christians with a good laugh!!

Atheists aren't the only ones. I used to take the time to write several paragraph answers to questions like, "Why are you an atheist?" or "Haven't you ever tried just believing in god?", only to see the best answer go to something like, "It doesn't matter because they're going to hell anyway," or simply, "Praise Jesus!"

I have never seen an atheist's answer chosen as best answer by a Christian who ask one of those "Hey atheist...." questions.

so, who do you think answered her question? i only ask because i read it, and it seems to me like no one answered it satisfactorily. perhaps it's to do with the way the question was asked but still, one would think you'd be more concerned about the lack of good answers, than her choice of best answer (could be she thought of it as the least bad answer).
