I am a program manager for a worldwide IT company. I make 85k/yr gross. I am at a point in my career where I am being held back by not having a business or IT degree. I've been in the IT field for about 8 years and in management for over 12.

Most of the big and multinational companies require a bachelor's degree before they accept your application. Its also a plus factor where you graduated - usually from exclusive colleges and universities. If you're a fresh graduate then your grades and course will be the basis. If you had previous work experiences - then they will find a position suitable for you. Having masteral degrees is also a big edge for you. All screening for big companies are done by the Human Resources Department. You have to pass the screening process which include interviews and written tests. Realistically it takes 2-5 years in a particular field before you can truly say you are up for promotion and perfected your craft (intellectual skills, people's skills and social skills). Your gross pay is usually based on your qualifications and your hiring position. Most of the companies are mandated to follow the minimum salary wage scheme implemented by the government. Your expected wage will be based on your previous gross pay (if applicable); market practice and company budget.

I'll answer for my previous position, since I was recently terminated while being on LOA.
My degree is a bachelor's of business administration. I majored in marketing. It took four years.
I'm actually an HR manager for a retail company (go figure), and I'd been doing it for four years.
My gross salary (base) was $50,000, but I also received a once-annual bonus based on the performance of the store or unit I was working in at the time. The bonus ranged from $3,500 to $10,000 in the four years I was there.

How much school did you need for the position you're in?
2 years, 40 hours per week
What was your degree in? Radiologic technology
How long have you been in the field? 2 years
What is your current gross wage or salary? $43,000 plus shift differential, overtime, and bonuses
(keep in mind that the cost of living varies greatly depending on where you live... $43,000 in California is a hell of a lot different than $43,000 in Alabama)

I started out in administration at a casino after high school. I knew I liked doing office work and did well on computers. I was quick to learn and always going above and beyond the call of duty. After three years working in the office I was promoted to a casino department manager. My next job was as a nursing assistant and it only took me 6 weeks to complete the course needed to get liscensed. I started out at over $10 an hour and now I work in a hospital OB department after two years and get to handle all the new borns and do all their assesments. I now make over $13 an hour and only need two more years of school to make over $26 an hour as a registered nurse

Master's degree in educational psychology/counseling. I set out to be a school counselor but wound up doing social work for the past 23 years. I make $65K before taxes. You don't go into this field to get rich.

My previous job was as a middle school math teacher. I made $36k, based on my education (a master's degree in computer science) and experience (it was my second year teaching)
(Answered for previous job because I quit after that and went back to school for my PhD, which is what I'm doing now. Currently I make $1500/month teaching part time, plus my tuition is paid)

I did not fallow the advise I am about to give you and I am unemployed searching for work. Go to the Washington state employment office web site and search for your career choice, find out what you would like to do, build a resume. They have tons of information.
