hello aspiring designer!

in order to be a package designer, you need to major in Industrial design aka product design. Its a very open field, so if you decide later on that your tired of package design, they're a ton of other things left i.e. toys, parts, cars etc.

Great schools for this major include: Cleveland art institute, Rhode island school of design, creative studies detriot, University of Cincinnati (daap program), Pratt, and Columbus college of art and design. most of these schools are private art schools and can be costly. If you're interested in design you should most deffinitly be interested in art in general because to become a designer, you must first learn the basics that all art students learn (foundation skills).

In high school, take as many different art classes as you can. colleges like to see well rounded students that have worked with many mediums. Specifically drawing classes that deal with still lifes. You should also consider a portfolio, most of the schools I have listed require one.

I really hope you stay interested, design is a great career choice with ample amounts of opportunity.

PS. The guys above me know absolutely nothing about this field. Traditionally, designers make more money than graphic designers(about 10 thousand a year) and graphic designers make far more money than advertising. If you're interested in seeing what else industrial designers do, visit www.coroflot.com and browse through peoples portfolio and work. Cheers!

A major in packaging would probably be best. I know Michigan State University offers BS, MS, and Ph. D. degrees in packaging.

About all I know about it is that I had a neighbor who graduated with a BS in Packaging from MSU and had her choice of jobs upon graduation.

For questions about the best classes to take in high school, I suggest you contact them directly at

while you're solid at this and can get in a company it is merely commencing out, you'll be waiting to barter a activity. otherwise, you need to have a level, solid portfolio, & be arranged to circulate in case you need to circulate the place those jobs are. it may be large in case you knew somebody or knew somebody who knows of somebody. it is vitally how maximum individuals get solid jobs. I actually have a pal who graduated 2 or 3 yrs in the past and remains looking. yet, there are no longer a brilliant form of advertising jobs the place I stay and he would not choose to circulate.

You "shcould" just go to a packaging store, where they sell cardboard boxes etc. and see what they don't already have. I can tell you they're not needing a lot more different, bigger and better stuff, invented by you..
