A documentary film or documentary photography?

If photography, you should study the works of Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Robert Capa, Gordon Parks.

Before taking any photographs you should get to know at least one family group. Spend time with them, share their day and their meals. You must have their trust and show them the respect they deserve as people.

Lange and Evans took powerful, sensitive images during the Great Depression.

When asked how he approached photographing people, Capa replied: "You have to like people - and let them know it."

In Gordon Parks' autobiography, 'Voices In the Mirror', pay especial attention to Chapter 16.

Are you talking about ethnic groups as yanamamo, inuit etc... or ethics as in ethics committee? My first suggestion is that if you want to know more about documentary movies, then watch documentary movies, there are many approaches to making a documentary movie.
