If you math some figures for a moment it would take 5 yrs in gas savings alone to pay for the extra cost of a Toyota Hybrid. At the end of the five yrs. you're staring at $1,250.00 at today's cost to replace the on-board batteries.
Many sites have said more pollution is produced in the nickel mines in Canada to produce the batteries than to drive your car for five years. It's a loose, loose situation. Maybe someday a more efficient electrical storage battery will be invented. Till that time arrives cancel my name from their list.
I sat in a Toyota dealership recently and listened to a new Hybrid costumer pose that very question concerning the cost of battery replacement. The jerk salesman answered: You don't want to know! I'd have walked out if I had received such a stupid answer.

To country boy:
#1. The hybrid/traction battery does not wear out within the useful life of the car so any statement such as "you will have to replace the battery after X years or X miles and it costs $X to replace" are null and void (some have gone over 300,000 miles on the original battery).
#2. Toyota only uses about 1% of the nickel from the Sudbury mine and the mine has been around since 1870. The Prius has only been in production since 1997. If you want to go after someone for the wasteland around the mine, go after the stainless steel industry as it uses far more nickel.

there is that notion that a gay man drives a hybrid or a small hatchback.
#1: I know a couple people who drive little itty bitty hatchbacks to not put any miles on their real cars, ie muscle cars, porsches, vettes, vipers, etc. Commuter cars as they are called.
#2: Some people like to make the statement of preserving as much as you can, hence the hybriddy vehicle.
Are you gay and just looking for a date? check craigslist, they have a gay chat room for you.
