Utility suites like Norton check shortcuts, registry entries, missing or corrupted files, and offer other options like recovery or protection of files.

There's also utilities that extend functions like the clipboard so every "Copy" is recorded in a simple database. Some tweak the settings to optimize components such as modems. Others supplant the OS supplied program or utility as several disk defragmenters did on the Win 9x series.

There are also utilities that simply supply information in a more comprehensible format like Disk State which monitors the hard drive(s).

One that I use is a Start Up manager that allows you to choose which programs are initiated at boot. You'd be surprised how many start and then consume resident memory regardless of whether or not you intend to use them.

Operating System Utilities are on almost all Windows Based Operating Systems for a number of reasons.
There are 2 that are used the most and one is located in System Tools and allows you to clean up different files and folders located in different areas of your computer.
The other is located when you open your Browser. Go up to the menu bar and then TOOLS and scroll down to Internet Options. This will allow you to delete and clean-up on line and off line content as well as bookmarks all are explainitory.
