because i know all of my friends very well, i know when they're being fake or phony. for my newer acquaintances it takes time for me to actually tell. i look for consistency. does her reponse add up to how i know her personality is so far? if not, then maybe she isnt being real with me.

for example, i have an acquaintance who gossips about another acquaintance who i see her hanging out with all of the time in and out of work. sometimes she says the most horrible things. to me this fake and phony and i know for a fact that when my back is turned she's talking about me because thats what people who gossip do. so you have to learn how to read people and match their actions with what they're saying.

First, if she's your friend, then she's not phony.

But if you doubt it, look into her eyes. If you ask a direct question, she'll look away if she's being fake. If she's honest, she'll meet your gaze.

Or if she's nice to you but hangs with people who aren't nice to you, she's being a fake.

But mostly, it's in your heart to tell. What do YOU think? Not what you HOPE, but what you really think.

ok, i can tell if people are being fake or phony to me. I have always had this sense about it and I am twice as fake or phony right back and they do not like it, or i am just plain rude to them, and tell them how ignorant they are being.

Blatent inconsistancies. I have one of those weird that allows me to remember the better part of everything I read, see, or hear.
