What is the difference? Will there be a noticable difference? I see newer TVs have SD composite and component. My TV I have now only has SD composite, but a friends has SD composite and component? My Xbox has both connections and I'm wondering if there is a major difference between the two SD connections. Will the component look much better than composite? Getting an HD TV is out the picture.

Lord Lord Lord.....

SD is SD...Plain old 480i. It doesn't look any better than 480i does...

Composite or Component doesn't change anything....IT's an SD / 480 TV.....

YOUR X-BOX can do 720 at LEAST....
Wait....
Wait until you CAN AFFORD HD...
And when you get it...1080P is the way to go.

Component cables will give you a MUCH better picture over composite. The sharpness, edges, color saturation are all superior with component.

In addition, you will need to use component cables if your TV supports 480p, otherwise known as progressive scan. Even if your TV only supports 480i and component video like my old Sony 27" Wega does, you'll still see a big difference between component and composite video.

If you are going to get a new TV, I would strongly suggest HDTV, just to be more-future proof (not to mention for the superior picture! :-) )

Composite signals combine Luma and Chroma video signals into a single wire. Because of imperfect filters, chroma bleeds into luma.

Component cables carry 3 separate luma and chroma signals, so the quality is usually better.
