My son had caps put on his four front teeth in December. Lately i've noticed that right on the gum line the gums are kind of a grayish color and look a little "chopped up". What could this be? I asked his doctor at his 3 year checkup (2 months ago) and she said it didn't look like decay or any kind of disease... any ideas????

to the person that made the comment that you can't believe he had his teeth capped..... not that its any of your buisiness, but he had a very serious disease when he was a baby that caused his teeth to start rotting. it was either have his teeth capped or let them fall out or be pulled out.... did you ever think how hard it would be to learn to talk without your front 4 teeth?????

Not sure what the discoloring is from. If it's a stainless steel crown it could be casting a shadow along his gumline making the area appear gray. As far as the gums being 'chopped up' make sure you're keeping the area very clean with daily brushing. The gums may be inflame. Sometimes if the crown doesn't fit correctly it can also cause irritation in the gumline area. It's also possible your son might have injured it with something he ate such as french bread. Wait a few days and see if the area heals. Good Luck

I know how you are feeling. My daughter (now 10) had severe reflux when she was younger, she pretty much had the teeth of a bulemic (sp) from the reflux causing her to vomit. She had many teeth pulled and a lot of dental work done from caps to fillings, to teeth being pulled! She has since lost most of her baby teeth and her permenant teeth have grown in. I would check with your dentist if you are concerned! could be irritation from the caps.

i can,t believe that the kid's teeth have already been capped.
the gum line is showing a distress due to the "capping".
this procedure will cause an un-even gum line and in my opinion should have never been performed unless there were
circumstances that warranted this course of action.
