I'm trying to make a skin for a website, but of course, like every site, there are restrictions on the sizes :( No matter what I do, I can't get the file down to the size it is supposed to be (in a JPEG format.) I'm using photoshop. Even just a black background with a file size of zero (obviously the smallest) is too big. I know I'm doing something wrong, because there are really elaborate and animated skins on here. It has happened to me a few times on different sites. What can I do about this?

Here's a solution I use all of the time and it's relatively unheard of. I create a really hi-resolution image file using either PSP or Photo Shop. I don't save it but instead I copy and paste it into Irfranview http://www.irfanview.com/ (freeware a must have utility) and then save it. Then it crunch it even more I open the file using Microsoft Paint and resave it.

Try it sometimes and see the huge difference it makes in file size without loss of clarity.

The file size may not even be the issue.

Call the web hosting company, they can help you.

Download the "snagIT" image editor and crop the jpeg image or less the resolution.
