I have been working for a company close to a year now, full time but as a temp. I am not working through a temp agency so I do not have any benifits. I was just wondering if there is anything that says when I should be getting benifits. Or maybe even a law somewhere that could help me understand why i have no benifits.

Benefits are determined by the employer. There isn't a law saying that you EVER get them.

If you are classified as a temp, you probably aren't eligible unless and until your status is changed. You could ask your HR department, or if you don't have one, ask your boss. If you have an employee manual, check that first, there might be something there that tells you.

I think that these things might vary from state to state, so you might need to check your state for the specifics. In my staate, as long as you are working for a company that offers benefits to all its full time employees, it does not matter if you are a temp unless you have 2 or more consecutive weeks of non employment every 26 weeks. If you have not had this, then you should be able to obtain these benefits at the same time all other full time employees have. You should start asking around and get the help and recommendations of the employees that work beside you. Good luck :o)

Nope... that's why companies utilize temps, so they don't have to pay benefits. If you were going through an agency, they normally offer some type of benefit package after an allotted time.

Sorry, the law is on the company's side on this one.

I've not known a company to pay temps benefits. Is there any way you can speak with human resources and discuss options? Maybe you can convince your boss to hire you permanently so you would qualify for them.

I sure hope all works out for you and Good Luck.

It all depends on your employer every company is different. Contact your employer to see if benefits are available.
