Yeah, it's a pickle.
Don't ask my why they put a pickle on the bottle, though (other than they made pickles before they made catsup).

Probably because they feel the necessity to and it is not a big deal. So they put pepper there well that is their business and not ours. It belongs to Heinz and they run their business the way they feel they need too.

i think that's just the heinz logo, like the blue ribbon is the hellman's logo. heinz also makes relish and pickles and they may have started with one of those products before the ketchup thing eclipsed a lot of their other products.

It's their trademark. They didn't make ketchup at the very start. One of the things they sold was pickles.
