Correct form is essential! When laying on the bench make sure your back is not arching. If you can't keep the small of your back against the bench, you need to lighten your weight. Also, are you working your abdominal muscles as well? It is very important that you work out your opposing muscles. For example, if you work out your bicepts then you need to work out your tricepts. Good luck and stay safe.

You may be arching your back to get the weight up which is causing the pain. Try keeping your back flat at all times. If you still find yourself arching your back if that is the problem you may want to go lower in weight or reps in order to get good form and consistency.

sounds like a muscle imbalance. this is exactly why you should be exercising the entire body. remember that the chain is only as strong as the weakest link. training your entire body will help you achieve a bigger bench anyway.

check out some websites like Metal Militia and Westside Barbell.
