We got this dog free out of the paper when he was aged about 18 months from a family that were moving to a unit. Now aged 6 he is great family dog. Very good with the children. I have no complaints except for when we walk him. I am not sure of his breeding but he weighs 40 kilos or so and is very strong. He displays very agressive behaviour towards other dogs when I walk him and goes beserk and is quite difficult to hold back. I use a gentle leader collar on him and sometimes a check chain which is harder to hold. Even though he cant breathe he will still do all he can to get to the other dog. It is very embarrassing and I am sure a little scary for other dog owners. If I am walking him and another dog owner has their dog off lead I have to call out to them to please put their dog on a lead as I am fearful that if their dog approached they would be killed. At home his obedience is good eg sit stay rollover etc . but around some dogs he just wont listen to me.Please provide training ideas

okay if a lead, choke, and pinch collar won't work - none of them work on my dog - then here's a few tricks you could try. when your dog lunges or barks at another dog, grab his ear and twist, while looking him right in the eye. that's dog talk for i'm the boss, and if i don't want you to bark, you won't. if you don't like 'hurting' your dog, then you can try another trick. when he goes after another dog, take your foot and step on the leash so that your dog's head is forced to go to the ground. it doesn't hurt them. but, a dog can't be a dominant, aggressive dog when they're head is in a submissive nose in the dirt position. either way, your dog will very quickly learn that he is not dominant, not even over stranger dogs. just be careful not to kick your dog when stepping on the leash.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL5sy

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I'm not sure what the reason is but my dogs, and many other dog owners I have spoken to have the same problem. The thing is, when they are running around the park off the leash, they play with all the other dogs without problem? This seems to be the case with many dogs. I think it is something do with them being protective of you and when they are restrained, they can't protect you properly so make a lot of noise about it?

Hello,
Understanding how to train your dog and how to correct bad behaviours is very important. That's why I suggest to follow a good training course. There are plenty of books and training material. One online course I recommend (I like it because it has hundreds of videos) is http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=572

It helped me a lot.
Have a nice day

Too little space for this :)
Are you in UK? One of the best authors on dog behavior/ training is Jan Fennel. Get a book or two, perhaps :)
Best of luck!
