Well, obviously you CAN call them if you want, but will the call be well-received?

My aunt is an avid cat person. I asked her this question once, and she said that she had a neighbor once who called the fire department when his cat was up in a tree, and the dispatcher asked, "Is the tree on fire?"

Neighbor answers, "No."

"Well, then, it ain't our problem," said the dispatcher.

So, judging from that example, it might not be a good idea to call them if your kitty climbs up a tree and forgets how to get down.

I used to tell people that the cat will come down once it is good and ready to, and hungry besides. For those who persisted, I used to ask the caller if they had ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree? Of course, the reply is NO.

You can call the fire department anytime, but most will not answer the call of this type. Sorry!

No. It used to be considered good public relations by the fire department to get cats from trees (and they were the only guys in town with the nifty ladder required to retrieve cats from really tall trees), but budgets and lawsuits ended anything but the most professional behavior from our public servants. You'll be referred to Animal Control who will bill you for getting your cat down.
