I think this is an excellent question. I used to be Catholic and the thing/idea that still causes me great fear is the thought of death and not going to heaven. Mind you, I don't want to think this way but 27 years of doctrine is a long time. I wish I was never given the 'hell message'. I think my life as an adult would be easier. I moved into Buddhism/Hindu hybrid so that I stop concentrating on the death bit as that doesn't serve much daily living purpose. If I'm only living for an afterlife and not living presently then how am I really living? Namaste

You mean if Christianity were exactly as it is now, except for: Jesus didn't die for my sins. I don't get reconciled with God. The fall of Adam and Eve has no solution for it. Man is not made up of body, soul and spirit, but only body and soul (like the animals). So if Christianity were exactly as it is now, except for the important part?
It does exist - it's called EVERY OTHER RELIGION IN THE WORLD. You see, every religion in the world has in common that we have prayer time, a holy book, getting together with other worshipers and generally doing good to others. Christianity is set apart by exactly what you propose to remove.
What would I do if that were the case? If there were no God? I guess I'd evolve.

The main draw to my faith is God's love for me, to know, love and serve God in this world for a short time, then to be happy in Heaven for eternity.
What good is a faith without an afterlife, if its all about the here and now you would be just like an atheist. Nothing now, nothing afterwards, how dull and boring is that?

Yes, because I too love Jesus in this current life. If He were not in the afterlife, I wouldn't want to go.

I would be very disappointed if there was no life after death.
If Christianity did not offer that I would choose another religion.
Christians, Jews and Muslims all believe in an afterlife.

Religions in general are about living in this world.
The Golden Rule is about how to treat one another.
Christianity teaches that we are brothers & sisters.
That GOD is our common Father, who loves us.
The afterlife is a given, whichever religion you choose.
We have an internal spirit which is eternal.

..."Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as in heaven, give us this day our daily bread...'
As much as some of fellow Christians like to emphasize what Jesus said about the afterlife, Jesus did indeed talk about the many blessing God brings to those who believe right now. And in the lord's prayer, we are asking God to give us what we need today, to bring about a change in our hearts and in our society.
I do not know exactly what my existence will be like after I die. I do, however, know that my relationship with God and with Jesus makes me a more peaceful, more compassionate person in THIS life. Peace be with you.

I trust in God, and in His promises. IF there is no afterlife, I'd still trust in Him because He always works for the good of those who love Him.

this question is fking impressive. i assume Islam is extraordinarily good for that - what with the virgins and all. I agree that the Christian afterlife is crap... spend the whole existence worshiping god for the reward of an eternity of worshiping god. No thank you. Argumentum is optimal approximately Valhalla - it extremely is a huge afterlife. exciting that Vikings and Muslims the two have cool afterlives for people who die honorably in conflict.
