btw, this is a serious question. i don't understand how he could create so much pain. why would allow good people to suffer?

2007-09-16 13:43:19 · update #1

ok, i'm talking about cancer and other types of illnesses that are not controlled by us. that's not our fault!

a sin? so, your saying a person who has cancer or is diagnosed with some other terminal disease has committed a sin and therefore deserves to suffer? i'm sorry but i don't agree with this at all.

So far, I have yet to see that there is evidence that this being or whatever exists.
However, I do understand why there is so much disease in the world, this planet can only support a certain amount of life, so, it seems natural to me that the earth itself is a living thing. So, in order that only the strongest survives, she sends out bacteria, viruses, and diseases to kill off the weak. Sort of, like a general who sends out the troops on a search & destroy mission.
I also do not believe that there is a being creating horror or havoc on the earth, because we did not follow the good beings orders. This seems quite conflicting.
And for the folks who read this, before you jump up on your soap box & start telling me that I'm going to hell, for stating my opinion on the subject.
Let me clear the playing field:
1. Yes, I am a Pagan.
2. No, I do not believe in the Christian god, or the devil aka Satan.
3. I don't believe in a place called Hell, except for the ones that are listed on maps. I believe there used to be a Hell, Texas. It may be a ghost town by now.
4. I am a Witch and am quite happy with my beliefs.
But back to the question at hand.
Cancer kills, but so does the treatment for cancer.
We have a population problem on the earth, too many people and not enough food & water to take care of them all.
Sickness in the world that kills off the weak & the disabled is the only way our planet Earth is going to survive.

People have been asking that same question for a long time my friend. I don't have the answer you seek, but consider this a front has a back a up has a down a left a right day has night etc... so it follows good must have evil pleasure must have pain etc... I do know how much God loves you how precious you are in his eyes and that in most cases where there is pain remember that " This too will pass"

Your question betrays a common misconception. God is love. God is light. Where He is not, there is darkness and hurting.

Sin brought death into the world. God made Adam and Eve in a PERFECT environment - at that time, there was no death, no pain, no hurting. Sin brings pain - but not only the sin of the person who is hurting. When a person chooses to drink an drive, he commits the sin - he may not be the one who suffers for it.

God cannot solve our problems, we have to do that ourselves.
We can eliminate needless suffering due to disease, hunger etc our selves with effort and compassion. The very nature of reality is chaotic, hence we will suffer if we do not become better people.
We also suffer in order to better appreciate the good moments in life and be more compassionate. Only a person who has suffered from hunger can feel the pain of a hungry person and give them food.
this is in theory. My life has been sucking a lot. I miss the highlights. I hope to get back up again. Only time will tell.
best,
Ali

When you see someone suffering that does not deserve it, I agree, it is so easy to question God and his ways. People will tell you that you create your own pain or you sinned and you deserve it, but then why do some of the sweetest, most loving and most devoted (to god) people end up getting raped, kidnapped, tortured, etc.??? The truth is, we will never know why he lets these things happen. God has his reasons. We can't just assume he's there to make our lives perfect. It is not reason to think he doesn't exist, but it's something you could ask him when you get to heaven.

God does indeed exist, but is not the creator of pain. The Bible is filled with very simple answers to your question. In the book of James, for example, it asks us why we are surprised when we face trials and temptations in this world? We aren't exempt from it. All good things come from God. Bad things come from Satan, demon spirits, people, and the world that we live in. The key thing to remember here that so many Christians forget is that this world is not our home. Dozens of Bible verses speak of people who say that very thing. This kingdom is not our kingdom, this home is not our home. We're going home when we leave this world. I see you mentioned disease. A lot could be said but I'll keep it short and simple. The Bible is the word of God and the truth from beginning to end. It talks of things scientifically, spiritually, psychologically, and then some, often about things that would not be formally discovered and recorded for hundreds or thousands of years later, very fascinating! It makes it clear that no one has ever escaped life alive, and no one ever will. You have to die to get home, so when we see death by cancer or disease, it is only the means by which we go home. Our bodies are very temporary, our lives on earth are temporary, our pain is temporary. When we forget where home really is and that life is only a temporary assignment, it is easy to question trials and tribulation as you have. This world is changing rapidly for the worse faster than ever before. Prophesies thousands of years old have come true in the past 50 years in miraculous succession. Don't let the opinions of this world, that of temporary minds of human flesh that will only turn to dust one day, be the determining factor in what you believe, and how you perceive.

because you can't blame everything on God - if you choose to believe in God then don't try and make everything in the world about him(or it or whatever).

You have to understand that things don't need a reason to happen, they just do. Trying to blame it on some deity to make it easy to understand is a cop out - learn to deal with life...

If I was a religious person (I am not) then I guess I would say that god did not give you life to life in perfect harmony, that is what heaven is for - your life is a test to see if you are worthy of heaven. So the pain and suffering and other difficult times are just that - a test.

God created everything good and there was no disease and death. Mankind fell into sin, aligned themselves with the devil and with that came decay and death. The pain that you see is a reminder that the world is in a fallen state - and that death is inevitable. This world moans because awaiting for the day of redemption. It was created for good and to bring glory to God, but mankind uses it for his own sinful ends. It moans because of man's misuse and will not rest until Jesus comes on the clouds of glory. Those to the resurrection of life and those to the resurrection of death. After that sin will be no more. In that day we are told that God will "wipe away all tears from their eyes."

Most so called christians are going to say it is because of you,and thats a lie. I guess they never read or at least didn't understand Romans8:20. The creature was made subject to vanity NOT WILLINGLY. God has counted ALL the same, for as in Adam all die. He also counts ALL as being alive in Christ. Christ came to save ALL,and will, for He will not stop till all are found,He dosen't exclude some like most christians do. Pain in this life is givin by God for correction. God always corrects for the good of the person. He dosen't burn people. He will reconcile ALL unto Himself, but each in there order it will not be all at the same time.

Delicate,
Sorry to tell you that God did not create anything bad. He is a perfect God. He did not create pain. Pain came in because of the fall. But there comes a time when EVERYTHING is going to be restored. That is why you have to stop thinking that God created such things, and allow Him to enter into you, by calling on His name and believing that He is.
