Not only will he deploy, bu the National Guard have been deploying more frequently and for longer tours than Active Duty units...

If he doesnt want to deploy, he should not join.

There were 95,563 National Guard and Reserves mobilized as of September 12th. Not all were deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom. Some are involved in Operation Noble Eagle which involves defense of the homeland.
Less than 2% of those deployed to the Iraqi and Afghan Theaters of Operation have been killed, either in combat or from accidental causes. Through December 1, 2006 81% of those medically evacuated for care from Iraq and Afghanistan were suffering from non-combat conditions and diseases.
The simple stark truth is that service members on active duty die, even when no one is shooting at them. During the eight years of the previous administration 7,500 service members died. That's more than double the number who have been killed in Iraq. Between 1980 and 1984 there were 9,555 deaths on active duty. That's almost triple the number of deaths from Iraq.

My husband is in Iraq right now....with his National Guard unit. He was with a "non-deployable" unit for 14 years...then in March, he got an e-mail saying he was being switched to a different unit, and being deployed. I hate the fact that he's away from us, and the conditions are less than great, but I don't watch the morning local news anymore and wonder if he got in a wreck on his way to DC!!!

He has less chance of being killed in Iraq, then he does walking the streets of New Orleans or Washington DC. Yes some guard units are deploying.

Oh yes. My friend almost got deployed right out of basic training, but luckily for him his unit had already been deployed when he got back from basic. Yes, the guard gets deployed all the time during war.
