What if you were praying, and God/Allah/YHWH/Buddha, whichever you worship, apeared to you. And told you that you had choosen the wrong religion? Most religions state flat-out that a true visitation can not be faked, that when it happens you will -know- with utter certainty that this is the truth. So you wouldn't be able to explain it away. But, honestly, you'd try, wouldn't you?

Okay, you're mostly missing my point, and illustrating it at the same time. It doens't matter how you worship, are you so rooted in that ritual that you would try to deny a religous experience? I think most people, and I see most answerers so far, would.

It is really the implicit belief that matters and not the object of worship.

An old Hindu man was asked to bathe inthe Ganga to wash away his sing. Not having seen the river he proceded towards it asking people onthe way. He stayed at a large stream thinking it was Ganga until years later somebody told him it was just a nondecrepit stream. He moved on and then camped by a might river onthe say thinking that this cannot be anyother than Ganga. He was disillusioned when he learnt after some time that it was not so. He set forth on his journey. He was however, very old and infirm by this time and at last he saw the Ganga but before he could reach its banks he collapsed. Themesengers of god of death arrived to claim the soul of the sinner. However, they were accosted by the servants of Lord Shiva who told them to desist. 'The guy had bathed in the Ganga for all his life. He is entitled to residence in the Kailash with the Lord.' The non-plussed messengers of death looked askance. 'Well, silly you, he had always the firm belief that it wasGanga in which he was bating throughout his life. And Ganfa is not the name of some river but the belief in the sanctity of water as if it is Ganga water.'

Hmmm. That's an interesting thought. But I cannot see it happening that way.

Imagine a Christian praying - having defined God by the Bible. He gets a spiritual visitation by a spirit being. This spirit being tells him that the understanding he has received from the Bible is incorrect, and actually Allah is the true God (and you can turn this around to be any two gods.)

Now, who came and said this? Was it a spirit being claiming to be God, as defined by the Bible, (the God that this person trusts) who told the Christian that He's not really God? Or was it a spirit being claiming to be Allah (a spirit that any Christian would understand to be a demon, or Satan himself)?

It seems to me that either way, a change should not occur. In the first, you must trust that the spirit is telling the truth right now, that they've been a liar from the start. And in the second, you must believe that the God you've always trusted is a liar, while hearing it from "the god" that you've always believed to be a liar.

On the other hand, Satan did deceive Adam and Eve and convince them that God lied to them.

Jesus did tell us that we know not what we worship. Read John 4:10-24, but pay attention to John 4:22.

This verse tells us that we think we are worshiping God the Father in Jerusalem and in the Mountain of Moses, but we are not.

Read Luke 4:6, it tells us that the devil took Jesus to a high mountain and showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world, but read the next line "For that is delivered unto me"
Job tells the same story that all the things (riches) of the world were DELIVERED unto Satan, and he gives it to whom ever he will.

Why do you think Jesus said John 3:14, 6:32, 10:8 and John 1:17. What do you think Luke 24;25 says "all that ever came before me are thieves and robbers.

Now read Revelation 13:10-18, you know it your heart who Jesus is speaking of but you will not believe it, so you continue to live a lie.

Satan himself masquerades as an Angel of Light. If he appeared pretending to be the true god, and your only criteria for determining the truth of a religion is by that vision, you'd be on very shaky ground. Satan is the father of lies.

I'll tell you-if God ever appears to me, He'd better have the proper id. I beleive in God, but I dont think God has a human form. I think we humans like to think of God that way because it makes it easier to connect with Him. For me-God is not male or female-tall short-dark light. He's God.Ergo-I'm not going to hold my breath until I get a visitation.

How would I know this was different than what anyone experiences during a psychotic episode?
You must understand, people *do* see god, Jesus, satan, Vishnu, and little aliens all the time. And they are convinced that it's really happening to them.
So, how would I know it wasn't psychosis?

Well that would be between Deity and me. If I see God in everything, work to walk my own path and respect others to do the same - I honestly don't see how that can be "wrong".

And if it said to be otherwise - well that's not my God, so I don't have to listen to it.

If God did indeed appear to me, and told me that I was worshiping wrong, and he told me specifically what he wanted me to do right, then I would follow what he told me. But until that happens, I will keep doing what I am doing!

In all actuality, I prayed to God, as to what and who he is, and he revealed that he is real, and as to what he stands for, and as to what he expects of me, and anyone else what he wants us to do.
I was worshiping him in falsehood, and yet he revealed to me the truth regarding who he is and what he expects us to do.
