I may be wrong but I believe Hawkins was a brand when the rifle initially came out back when flintlocks were the latest technology. They made other guns, but the .50 Hawkins rifle was by far their most popular,so they are reproduced today by different companies.I think

I don't know how Boker got to be a top contributor with an answer like that. by the way genius, Hawkin (sic) is not a brand, but a rifle style. So to say their are thousands of them is an incomplete statement.

I own a .50 caliber Hawken from Thompson Center. I also have a .54 cal Renegade from Thompson Center

I have a Hawken 50 cal cap lock. And I love it. Very accurate and fun to shoot. I have bought another just recently and it is on it's way. It is the same caliber but a flint lock. Looking forward to shooting it.

I believe the "correct" spelling to be Hawken, not Hawkins.
YES as a matter of fact I own (2) Thompson Center .50 caliber "Hawkens"...lol

I also think Boker was using the spelling of his answer to create a little levity/humor...and not to be critical as those that would put down his Top Contributor status, and could use a little spelling lesson themselves....

I've got a .54 caliber Hawken style cap-lock from Cabelas. I've taken deer with it and will continue to do so. It will give you a good thump if you are shooting alot during practice but mostly because I practice with the the load I hunt with.

Of course they do, I'd be willing to bet several thousand people own a Hawkins .50 caliber.

I have two of them that I built from kits. One is a flintlock and the other is a caplock. Both are great guns and I have killed deer with both. My favorite target load is a round ball with a .015 patch lubed with spit. I load 80 grains of 3F powder and they both shoot like dreams. For hunting like the Buffalo bullets lubed with Bore Butter and 100 grains of 2F powder. Both loads have a hefty recoil but not something that an experienced shooter can't handle.

Did you have any other questions?
