I think a quaker would be good as your first bird if you want a talking one. They're pretty expensive when it comes to 'beginner birds' ($250-450, depending on whether you get green or blue). Boys generally speak better than girls, but they're both great talkers, and it's so much fun to wawtch them exploring. A quaker was a great beginner bird for me, but it might not be for you. You need to be prepared to clean the cage, feed them fresh food daily along with seeds and pellets, pay a lot of money for the right sized cage. If you can do all of these things, then you should get a quaker for sure! Good luck!

Hi there! There is no such thing as a beginner bird. But the birds that most people start out with are the parakeets (budgies) lovebirds and cockatiels. But should you research on the Internet, read some books. Talk to people, maybe join a bird club. Yes, you can be a member without having a bird. But it gets you around people who do. So you can see how certain species interact with their humans. Some people start off with Zebra finches and canaries. My favorite website is "Winged Wisdom" it has all sorts of things to read and surf thru. As for talking birds, they are over rated! Do you really want a bird that sounds like a broken record forever? Or my personal favorite is a swearing bird. They aren't that much fun and they are hard to place if you have to give them up.
But do you research, you will find that there is a perfect bird for you. Mine is a Greycheek parakeet and Violet lovebirds.

Have fun looking.....good luck to you.....If you have and questions I would be happy to answer them.

Hi!
Well it sounds like a budgie would be a good beginner bird for you! Thy are small, the males can talk but do tend to have tiny voices so it can be hard to hear them. The price range depends on were you get them. I would guess the bird a lone is around $20-$30 at the most. They don't need HUGE cages but they still need room. You need to take him out every day for at least an hour or they can get arthritis in there legs. Good luck with your decision!

Cockatiels are pretty much perfect for beginners.

They are small, tend not to scream (and aren't deafening if they do), are affectionate, and can learn to talk. (mostly, they learn to whistle songs more than they talk).
They are a moderate size, not huge and not tiny.
They have nice lifespans. About 20 years, not over 100 like the larger parrots.
Feed bills will be reasonable, they are smallish, and need less food.
Less mess, again because they're smaller, but don't get me wrong. ALL BIRDS ARE MESSY!

Parkeet is the best they cost 16.99 where I live. They are very good birds and the more you get the happier they sound. I have 5.
