lol the reason why i ask is because my boyfriend thinks im crazy for letting her sleep in the bed, and he hates it.. so im trying to see if im the only one who lets their dog sleep in the bed. lol. but i think i wont, because i dont want her to think because she is sleepin in the ed, she doesnt have to listen to me. shes been actin up the last few days, thinkin she can get away with anything, so maybe when she is older, and has learned her place she wont act up. thank you everyone for your opinions, and im relieved to see that only one person has left a bad comment about my dog, and her breed. its kind of suprising to me. i love pits.

It depends on the individual dog. Some dogs will take advantage of the elevated sleeping position and act out. In the dogs eyes, the alpha gets to sleep in the highest spot. When you sleep with your dog, she/he might see that sharing this position makes you seem less dominant. If your dog is naturally submissive, then no problem, if you have a dominant dog, sleeping on the bed is asking for trouble.
If you don't have a problem with your dog challenging you, or disobeying, then let him/her sleep on the bed if you want. But the minute they start to act out, all furniture privileges should be revoked.

Doesn't matter what breed the dog is.. You decide whether or not they should be on the bed or other furniture on a couple of factors. A. Do you want them there? More importantly is their personality. If a dog has a pretty dominant type of personality, then they should be made to stay off the furniture. A lot of people make the mistake of allowing dominant dogs on the furniture then later when the dog grows up they can't understand why the dog growls when it is told to get down.
Dominant dogs in homes with children should be made to stay on the floor or on thier own beds IMO.

Sleeping in bed with people encourages dominance in a dog so if your dog has problems No, but not if there are not. BUT, do not start and then change your mind, once a dog sleeps in your bed they will always sleep in your bed unless crated or in a diff room. You can retrain them to not jump up while you are awake but as soon as you fall asleep they are up there..lol. Personally I prefer my large breeds on the floor but my MinPins are all in bed. My Dobe was allowed on the furniture in his first home so he hops up on the couch when the 5 MinPins allow him and on the bed after the MinPins and I are settled.

Well, there are different theories about allowing dogs to sleep in the bed with people. If you are having trouble teaching the dog that YOU are the alpha-dog, you may choose not to let the dog on the furniture with you. Allowing the dog to sleep in the bed can send the message that they are equals with you.
However...I allow my dog to sleep in the bed with me and it one of my favorite times to spend with her.

It depends if the dog is dominant. For dogs, the alpha gets to sleep in the highest spot. If your dog is not dominant, or if he understands that you are the boss, it should be fine for him to sleep on the bed.

If you don't mind them taking up the extra space, then it is fine. I don't let my pit bull sleep on the bed, she has a doggy bed on the floor next to my bed where she sleeps, and she likes it just fine.

why does it have to be specific to pit bulls? it doesn't matter what kind of dog it is..if you want your dog to sleep in your bed that is your personal choice..just be aware, if your not married or you don't have a bf/gf and your dog gets used to sleeping in your bed, your gonna have a hell of a time getting them out of your bed once you get a sig. other..good luck

My old Dobie used to sleep with me. When I brought in a roommate that slept in my bed, she (my Dobie) used to use my back against her own back as leverage and push my new roomate off the bed with her feet and legs. We used to laugh our butts off. She (my Dobie) finally got okay with the roommate. What was interesting was that this was the only roommate she ever did this to.

If it doesn't bother you, then it is OK. However, they may snore or dream, or move, and make it harder for you to get a deep sleep.
