Just wondering what the name of this concept was: It is the idea that even small events influence the major ones. That all actions/influences will find who they are meant for. For example, a butterfly looking for food who is then pushed into the path of a bird who tries to eat it. To this chase a cat is added, who while running across the street gets in the way of a child on a bicycle who has to slow down in order to not hit the cat. As the child comes to a stop, he realizes he just missed the oncoming path of a car that has run a stop sign. Does anyone have a name for this? Thanks.

You had to do this to me, didn't you? I just wandered through my basic philosophy text ("Philosophy On the Go," by the Bathroom Professor aka Joey Green), and I know there is a word for it, but I can't think of it, and neither can the Professor.

But I know Douglas Adams went to great detail on it in "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul," which is about a detective named Dirk Gently who can solve any problem by plucking these cause-and-effect chains at just the right place and making them shake out the right answer.

Good luck.

i don't have a name for it... maybe ''causalism'' would work. i don't know. all i know is that it's the truth. the example you gave is comparable to throwing stones in a pond; the stones make ripples, and the ripples move whatever they come into contact with. all of our actions affect other people, whether we realize it or not.

the same concept is used in christianity- we reap what we sow.
