Yes, I play fiddle, banjo and acoustic guitar, and I sing. And yes, I'm good. But I'm not famous and I play a style of music called old-time (think of the soundtracks from "Songcatcher" or "O Brother Where Art Thou?" - that's the kind of music I play) that isn't really part of the mainstream of mass culture so I have very little expectation of ever becoming famous.

But that's not why I play anyway -- I play because I love it. I have friends and acquaintances who play music and we get together on a regular basis to jam for fun. Once in a while I get asked to play fiddle for a square dance or play at a local folk music coffeehouse.

My primary instrument is flute/piccolo. I took my love for music to make it into a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and Flute Performance. I had to become a very good player to make it through the music program...but there's always room for me to grow. I took lessons for a number of years and really miss them. I also played in flute choirs and have attended music conferences.

I also discovered a love for singing. I finally rigged up the guts to take voice lessons for a semester in college and enjoyed it. Admittingly, I had not taken voice lessons since, but would love to in the future, as money permits. However, this past spring, I auditioned for an winning chorus called Amasong. i absolute LOVE this group...we sound amazing and the women in this group are truely fantastic. We are talking about doing a tour in the future as well as putting together a 4th cd.

Doing music was purely my decision. At first, my family was skeptical about me majoring in music. However, once they saw on how much I loved it and showed a lot of potential in excelling in the field, they backed off and now support my decision. It hasn't been an easy road, but do not regret. I'm learning that I'm enjoying making music more for myself and for the sheer fun and beauty of it, rather than being pressured to be perfect...and that's a major change for me. :)

My mother wanted me to learn the accordian. Even at age 5, I hated that instrument and said no. At 10, they had me try the clarinet. However I have hay fever and didn't have enough breath to hold a whole note.

I do and I absolutely love it. I play bassoon, clarinet, trombone, and a bit of piano. You probably don't need to know my name because I don't plan on continuing instrementation after high school.. if I do though it'll definitely be bassoon! I consider myself to be at least decent... being 1st chair at my school of 3 bassoonists.. but we'll see when I get to the college level!

Do vocal chords count? I've been in choirs since I can remember. I've been in at least 10 groups and sometimes more than one at a time. I once was in 3 choirs at once. I love it so much fun.

I used to play flute in high school, I still have it, and play once in a while. I'd say I'm quite good. I love it, it gives me peace.

I play the guitar and the five-string banjo. My expertise lies with the guitar, however, because it is more of a challenge to me.

The banjo is simply a novelty for me.
