Mass deportation is obviously ridiculous. Entire industries across the US would collapse. For example, the restaurant industry in New York City could not survive. There are millions of people working illegally here from all over the world. We need comprehensive immigration reform now. We need to approach this problem logically, realistically and dispassionately.

I believe that the conclusions of the article are flawed. Te farmers should have time to find alternatives. The ill formed conclusion that the fields would go unpicked is a bad one. Alternatives would be found, even if prices did go up for a short period of time. Using the article as a means to say that we would be helpless without the illegals isn't true, and a very bad way to say that we need illegal aliens in this country. I say that we would have a problem for less than 1 picking season, and then workers would come forward to help out. This could also lead farmers to buy mechanical systems that would replace the lost workers. Your premise, reasoning to keep illegals, and the article are all flawed. We don't need the illegals, and would be better off without them. That is my opinion, as I am sure that you won't like it, based on knowledge of how well America can, and does cope with problems.

I read that article when it came out and thought it was completely rediculous. First, supposedly only 1/4 of ag workers are illegal, and if those in Santa Maria are the only ones at 90%, the employers should probably be in jail. Second, they can raise wages. Third, we can import people we need under H2A which is unlimited, but more costly to the employer and doesn't so badly impact our services like schools etc.
Beyond this article, which I find it hard to take seriously, there would definitely be impact. The question is to take the smaller hit now, reduce the overall economy but increase the slices of the pie, and continue 'right sized', or to continue a global pyramid game that will crash and burn us much worse, down line, while ruining our schools and draining services we pay for and rely on, in the meantime.
Employers need to pay the true cost of the foreign workforce they import, not cause us to pay for it while our schools fail our own children and hospitals close.
Fix the impacts, and we'll talk about YOUR problem.

Biased articles is what I read. With a lot of "what ifs".
Like "what if the economic conditions were reversed, and there were jobs in that neighboring country and no jobs in your native land, and you had a family to feed, what would keep you from seeking employment over there?"
What do you think they are trying to do? Their job is to cause a reverse in the economic conditions. Or have you caught onto that yet?
How many years do you think us Americans have been hearing this same sh!t from OUR security department for this country? Do you think that DHS is really saying anything new? So the only thing OUR Congress has to do, is what WE legal Americans tell them to. Illegals do not have a say in our policies. Illegals do not even get to vote on our policies, or how we in the USA should vote. Neither does Mexico, or their government, so why are illegals looking for another free ride.
OUR Representatives happen to WORK for the American citizens who also put them into office. Now if they went into office as a guise to betray the American people as they are doing, and looking out for money paid to them by the big lobbyists, and looking out for illegals interests instead of their own Country, and her people. Then we replace them. Just as easy as that.

As the articles state, there is doubt that the federal government could in fact carry out mass deportations. Undocumented workers could be replaced with other undocumented workers as the deadline approaches, thus starting the cycle of verification anew. This could be achieved by simply trading social security numbers of workers already working in any major industry. The articles also do not specify by what means the federal government would deport illegals. The articles merely tell how the fed is charging employers with verifying the legality of their workers. There is, in fact already a guest worker program that allows migrant workers to legally work in the U.S. At this time, the program is primarily used by the lumber industry.
A guest worker program, in and of itself is not going to reform immigration greatly as all it does it set up a legal form of temporary migration. There is no plan for what to do with those that overstay their visas or who are brought over not knowing about anu guest worker program.

And it states "We don't guarantee such a scenario would actually occur, but there is a high probability that it would."And do you know why it states that?Because it is a fact that the prices of fruits ect would not go up simply because the consumer does not see that cheap fruit the illegal picks because the person that hires the illegal for a cheap wage keeps that extra money in their pocket that is saved by not having to pay a citizen a decent wage. Also it is the American tax payers that have to pay higher taxes to pay for all the freebies, crime, stolen ID ect that illegals stick us with. I am from a family of farmers that donot hire illegals, and I would rather not have illegals here it does not benifit me whatsoever,in fact it is a burden to me to have to watch my kids go to school where they have to deal with illegal kids that cant speak english and keep up,and have crowded classrooms with illegals that have no respect for anything, and thats a fact!!!!!!!!

Ok, this is how it really works. Farmers who utilize illegal aliens are increasing their profit margins. They charge the same for their crops as farmers like us who don't. No savings are passed on to consumers by them. Our farms are profitable, we do not have problems hiring Americans because we pay a decent wage. Our farms are profitable.
This editorial comment is just that..an opinion in a paper biased in support of illegal aliens.

I read the articles and I still feel VREY STRONGLY that ILLEGALL IMMIGRANTS should be sent back to their own country. There are PLENTY of people in CA to fill thoes jobs. I think the business owners should be fined or imprisioned for hiring ILLEGALS. They do it jsut to make a bigger profit.
ILLGEAL Immigrants are a problem. They "POSE A DIRECT THREAT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" They have INVADED not IMMIGRATED and they should be treated as invaders.
The following 10 facts have been pulled from the LA Times.
1. L.A. County has 10 million people. 40% of all workers in L.A. County are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.
2. Of the 10 million people in L.A. County, 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million Speak only Spanish.
3. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
4. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
5. Over two-thirds of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
6. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.
7. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
8. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
9. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
10. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish language only

i didnt read the articles, but its not a good idea to do mass deportation. my opinion is not biased, although i am mexican. has anyone seen the movie "A Day Without A Mexican?" it shows wat would happen if mexicans disappeared. "there goes the neighborhood" was a line from this movie. the american economy would collapse with a sudden severe cutback in the workforce. many low -wage jobs would be available and not enough "americans" to fill them. americans are spoiled brats dat dont want to get on their knees and get dirty cleaning bathrooms. sure, more mexicans are coming into this country, but they want a better life and are helping a boosting economy. its not like mexicans are polluting the american lifestyle. after all, america is a melting pot and mexican culture is and should be appreciated, not hated. god bless america but also mexico because one cant exist without the other. american rednecks are just greedy and angered that mexicans are here, but the naticve americans were here first, not the stupid dumb blondes u see here like paris hilton or other trailer trash. the cause of conflict in this world is all the hate that americans inflict on other nations. americans have a right to be unhappy with some injustices, but only issues that are ACTUALLY injustices, not what they THINk is unjust. this is a reality check: americans NEED mexicans in this country
