No one really knows...The story of the flood was a common story in the tradition of mid-eastern people. Since most of the people in the mid-east were pagans at the time of Abraham, and this was a tradition of all peoples, and the tradition could not be eradicated by Israelite leaders, it could be that the story was Judasized for the Jews to teach them a moral lesson Remember, in those days these pagan peoples worshiped false gods, offered human sacrifices, and did many other things that I will not mention here.

there was never a global flood, but there was major flooding in parts of the middle east, caused by a dramatic rise in sea levels as the glaciers receded after the last ice age. the flood myths of coastal cultures from around the world all come from that same era.

Approximately 6000 years ago. It did not cover the whole planet. It was more like a huge tsunami that killed hundreds of thousands of people. Not everyone or everything as the story tellers would have you believe. They copied that story and most of the others from the Sumerian clay texts and screwed up most all of them when trying to explain it all.

Adam was dead, so it was at least 1000(rounding) years after creation. I'm not entirely positive the Bible didn't skip names in the genealogy so it could have been more than that too.
