perfect, one could not be GREATER than Jesus. If The Bible says it, it must be true, right? That's what fundamentalists keep saying.

On numerous occasions He challenged His enemies if anyone could convict Him of sin. On each occasion they were silent.

In this passage, Jesus was in no way saying that we would be greater than Him. The sole reason for our "greater works" is because Jesus will go to His Father and send forth to us the power of the Holy Spirit ( verse 16 ). And through the Holy Spirit our works will be "greater" in number and scope as we convert others and perform miracles ( Mark 16:17; Luke 10:17 ). But again, our power is not our own, but is God working through us.

I don't understand the long mental stretch you are making in order to make an effort to show Jesus was not perfect.....or to denounce Christianity, or whatever your personal point was. To each his own. But what this scripture promises us from the mouth of Christ is this: "..The person who trusts me will not only do what I'm doing, but even greater things, because,I on my way the Father, am giving you the same work to do that I've been doing. You can count on it. From now on, whatever you request along the lines of who I am and what I am doing, I'll do it. That's how the Father will be seen for who he is in the Son. I mean it. Whatever you request in the way, I'll do.... (Quoted from "The Message:The Bible in contemporary language")I leave this to comtoplate...

He said (if you'd bother to read the scripture in CONTEXT) to His Apostles: "Greater THINGS will ye do"...

it's a matter of NUMBERS....

GREATER meaning "more"...Jesus was one Man....

His Church....His Body here on Earth....filled with the Holy Ghost IS doing greater things...

By sheer numbers alone...the Gospel has gone into all the world....

What's OBVIOUS is your lame attempt at logic and misquoting Scripture.

Unbelievable. Is that what he really said? Read it again. He said we would do greater things because he is going to the Father. Enabling us to do greater things than he had already done does not make us greater than him.

He was talking in reference and on behalf of God, in a way opening up that possibility. It was a hope of his to be able to change his Heavenly Father's mindset in order to bring blessing to others. It was these changes that the Jewish (previously Hebrew) people did not like because it took from thier righteousness, more specifically being the Pharasees and Saducees, which in turn complained to the Roman Political Power, who in turn had him crucified on the basis that he was the "Messiah", which would be a direct political power attack in the eyes of the Emporer, because he would be ascending to kingship which had, since then, been replaced by the Jewish-Roman political union.

He never said we would be greater than He...He said that we would do greater works than He did in the short time of His earthly ministry, which was going to end "because I go to the Father'...and He left it to us to continue His work and build on it! nice try, scooter, but you'll have to do better than that...

He says we'll do greater works, not that we'll be greater than him. Being greater than him was satan's goal and we see where that got him.

He would empower us to do greater things than He did. It doesn't mean that we are somehow better than Him. After all, He is the one who equips us.

your miss quoting reread it he said "greater works" because he would empower us with the Holy Spirit ...not greater then him. and asking in his "name" it gets done thru Him.

12Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and {greater works} than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
