When you start the computer, it will say somewhere to press a key to enter the "BIOS" or "Setup." Press that key, and go to where it says boot order (it's different on every computer). Put the CD-ROM drive above the hard drive and put in the CD.
You might not be licensed to install Windows XP on another computer, though. Windows XP is proprietary software, and therefore does not permit copying or installing on more than one machine.
You might also consider changing to a GNU/Linux distribution, as they are more stable, efficient, and most have visual effects to rival the new "Vista." You can download a bootable CD file from sabayon.org, which you can try without installing, just from the CD. GNU/Linux is not proprietary, so you are entitled to make copies of it and give it to anyone. You can also install it relatively easily from the CD.

Boot from CD, i guess is a live CD which is not installable CD on Windows, only on Linux operating systems..
You will need the installable CD of XP to install it.. You will need to insert the CD and restart with making sure that you boot from CD.. Then the installation wizard will come up and you just follow with a new installation of Win XP.. Just making sure you delete the partition that win2000 is on, then install the new XP on it..
Hope this helps & good luck,

If it's an upgrade version of XP, it won't upgrade from 2K, oddly enough. It will only upgrade from WinME and older.
If it's a full version then is yoru BIOS set to boot from CD first? If not, go into your BIOS and change the boot sequence. that should clear it up. At system boot, press teh delete key a few times to get into your BIOS, don't change anything unless you are comfortable in knowing what you are doing.

When your computer starts up, look for a prompt to press a key, usually "del" to enter bios. Tap the key as the computer starts up, just after the logo screen, but if the windows screen comes up, your too late. In bios, look for a boot or advanced tab, and locate the boot device and their, change cd-drive to number 1, and restart with the cd. You should change the bios back to default when your done.
