I believe that a general discharges will restrict someone from many aspects of employment. Gov't work, security, are two that are on the list.

Employers don't generally ask an individual to see their discharge papers. In some cases, a general discharge might just work in someone's favor, in that, an employer will realize that an individual will not be recalled to duty.

As stated "general under honorable conditions" now what you have to look at is what is the RE code, that is were you might run into a little difficulty. Tell them what does the re 3 mean or 4. What a person wants is a 1 or 1a, the others are because of a medical condition, or some kind of a physical matter, the higher the number the less likely it can be fixed and less chance you are at getting another G job. Don't have the code in front of me but you get the idea.

No. The conditions of your discharge were honorable. The only big thing you do lose is the right to wear an Honorable Discharge pin in your lapel. The authority for your discharge will be on your DD-214 form. Should you apply for a government job and try to seek a "veteran's preference" for the position, you will be required to produce a copy of that DD-214.

No, its honorable, so it just means they got out of the military. Same as if they did not re-up.

A dishonorable discharge is the hard one to overcome.

If there is something in his record that would cause them to lose a security clearence, then that can affect what type of government job they can get.
