A truly wild cat won't meow, they stay silent so predators don't find them.

I think he would be either lost, or someone's outside cat who may not know where he is, might have wandered too far. If he's a kitten, by all means go get him if you can, they don't know how to stay safe off the street out of traffic.

I'd put out food and water for him. Whether he's lost or not, he's probably hungry.

I doubt that he's a feral cat. Feral cats are usually silent and don't want to draw attention -- he meowed at you because he wanted your attention. He's probably lost, abandoned, or just out wandering around being sociable.

You could put up signs asking if anyone has lost a cat.

If he stays around and no one seems to have lost him, I would take him to an animal shelter. He may have a microchip they can scan, and they can try to contact the owner. The shelter is where an owner would look for a lost cat. And if no owner turns up, he can be put up for adoption. It isn't safe for a cat to be outside on its own.

Chasing a cat is a sure fire way to have it run away from you but it is nice that you want to catch him.

If you get a closer look, try and figure out if he looks plump, well-fed and well-groomed. If so, it is probably out for a stroll and is someone's pet. Ditto if he has a collar.

You can take a can of tuna fish in water and see if you can coax him out. Put it near where you saw him before, and then do something else. Staring at, approaching, talking to or chasing cats can be threatening to them. Ignoring them works the best.

You can also call your local humane society or cat rescue group or animal control and see if you can borrow or rent a live trap. Bait it with tuna and a tub of water, cover the mechanism with a bit of grass and watch from a distance.

If you catch him and need to keep him overnight you need a flat drawer or pan, unscented, clumping litter, a litter scoop, plastic bags, a few cans of cat food, a water dish and a towel or something for a bed. He needs a bathroom or something easy to clean up with his litter box on the opposite side from the bed/food.

A vet or humane society can check for microchips which is the easiest way to find an owner. You can also take a photograph and post it or call around to see if anyone is missing a cat.

Be careful not to get bitten or scratched. When in doubt, wear gardening gloves and long sleeves.

If you want to keep him, you can take him to a vet for a checkup and testing for diseases. Once you figure out age, health, neutering status, etc. you can figure out where to go from there.

You can take him to the humane society but if he is feral and unapproachable, chances of adopting him out are pretty low. At the least, it is good to get feral cats fixed and vaccinated before letting them back out to be feral again. This can cost $200 for neutering, vaccinations, check ups, etc. at a regular vet but there are also low-cost spay/neuter/vaccination clinics.

It is kind of you to want to help.

It's really up to you. But realize that if the cat is an outdoor cat there is a good chance that it's feral and won't make a good pet. Not to mention it could have fleas, ticks, or diseases. So if you choose to take it in, be prepared for some nice vet bills.

i think it would be best to leave it be for a day or 2 i would try "baiting" it with some food, so it will learn to see you as a good thing, and not something that will harm him. once you see him really upclose you can determine then if you should set a trap and take him to the vet. hope this helps

My family has caught so many cats before its truly crazy unless you have cat supplies i wouldn't try to catch him because you couldn't take care of him. But my family has gotten cats out of the gutter and from under houses and out from garage doors. trust me we know just about everything on taking care of cats here. LOL Its a family thing, but if you do have the supplies to do it then i would try to catch it and then try to feed it food or maybe use a toy or a laser, maybe its one of those types of cats. If anything we used chicken and fish. idk really have a strong picture of where are what situation your in but i hoped i helped out.

If you think the cat is in danger... go and get it, otherwise... just wait and do what your gut tells you to do.
