I've been in NZ 4 5 weeks now, visiting my children who have been here 4 6 years now. I can qualify on a Parental unification visa. I am here 4 3 months without a visa. This is such a great country and I would like to stay permanently - I don't want to be a burden on the kids and would like to get a job to pay for my work viza and perm. residency - where can I get a job without a viza in the meantime - I do secretarial work and administration, but, at this stage I'll try anything (within reason). Help!!

I'm sad to say that there is still some racism in NZ among employers. I know many highly qualified immigrants who come to NZ who, either because of how they look or their accent, find it hard to break in to work here. One person I know (Chinese) did his accounting degree in NZ but it took more than 6 years to get a job working in that area. He worked in the Supermarket up until then. His wife who had very high secretarial jobs in Singapore also took a long time to find a job. Eventually they both got appropriate qualified jobs in Govt departments. There are some employers who do focus on overseas graduates (few unfotunately) as they are aware there is a very strong pool of talent out there that is ignored. The NZ Association of Credit Unions in Parnell, Auckland is one such employer.

Sorry I can't be of more help but wishing you all the best.

how hard are you trying to find a job? theres always work somewhere. but failing that you could just turn to robbing people.
