Hey all-
Im sure you get this alot but I had a question about how much sports help when applying to the air force academy--

my overall gpa: 3.7 (My highschool is highly ranked-- gpa should boost up)
sat: 2000 (out of 2400)
I am in the national society for highschool scholars
1 year of extra circular programming (game)
1.5 years of jujitsu (purple belt)
1.5 years in civil air patrol
vice president of 2 clubs (cancer out reach/climate control - going on second year for both)
good amount of community service +100 hours
member of my church

but no sports in school- how much will this harm me?
(I already have the senator recommendation)

just a heads up-- 95% of the cadets in the academy participated in a highschool sport-- so it scares me

I'd say that jujitsu is impressive!

I don't know about the AFA, but either make an appointment to talk with the administration there or talk to your local AF recruiting office who can get more information for you.

You sound like a good candidate to me! Good luck!

I'd be a little more worried about your gpa and sat scores. The average gpa of accepted applicants is 3.9, so you're a little on the low side there, try hard to raise it a bit. As far as your sat score, 2000 isn't bad by any means, but its not great either, you may want to study a bit and retake it. As far is sports are concerned, the military is all about team work, so sports are really important in that aspect. I doubt that not having any sports would automatically get passed over, but it defiantly be a contributing factor to why some one did, or didn't get accepted.

Ya, you're basically squared away. I think 95 percent is inaccurate. West Point is only 65% and their all physical. The jujitsu thing is verry good, and so is Civil Air Patrol, and the community service.

Such a good body to waste on the Air Force, you should've applied for USNA or USMA ;) jkjk bro, good luck. Hopefully you'll go be a Combat Rescue Officer or Pilot, don't waste yourself on a desk job :P

While participation in sports is helpful, it's not absolutely vital. It does look good because it provides experience in leadership, teamwork, and physical conditioning - three traits the Air Force values. It looks like you have some background in the same kinds of experience through different avenues. Your resume looks pretty good to me, so I'd say you have a decent shot. Good luck!

For the academies, its not just being in sports, its having a variety of activities. Sports is just the most common. You appear to have that variety.

Use martial arts as a sport -- get better at that -- good to go...
