When I was in college the owner of a club we hung out at said the way to have a successful club was a strong tourist season the summer "and one good fire every winter."

Clubs are successful for short periods. They're in for a season or two and then the crowd goes somewhere else or to a different theme. You don't need a college degree to open one, but you need a pile of money and the ability to be flexible and quickly able to reinvent yourself. You might be better off with a bar near a college.

You also need to study your community. Can it support a nightclub? Will there actually be enough people going out on a Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday night to cover your expenses? And what kind of opposition will there be to your project, what regulations do you need to meet and what competition is there?

You'll also need a clean record in order to get a liquor license.

Night clubs usually are successful for a little while then die out. Think of the night clubs you've been to, most are places that were cool for a while then fell off the map. I would suggest going to school to get a business degree if not a four year college then at the very least a two year degree. Also I would work in a bar to gain some experience about owning one. But the last I checked you do not need a degree to own a bar, you do need a liquor license tho.

Go work for a bar and get some experience that way. That career field seems easy, but it's not. You may grow tired really quickly of drunks and young idiots. There's a lot to put up with and you should definitely get some experience before opening up a bar or night club. I would suggest a bar more so than just a night club tho. Night clubs have a course that they run in about two or three years, but with a bar... people become attached to bars.

Just some things to think about.

Some, not all, are quite successful. And no, you don't need a degree to start one.
