Hi Hello,
If you put your elbows on the table at my house you will not be able to eat fast enough to bet full. My children will eat everything before you even begin. I believe that it is supposed to be "table manners". Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds

If there was a good reason, I'd have to say it is what someone else said about being able to see others at the table. When you have your elbows on the table you are leaning forward quite a bit and you might keep the people on either side of you from seeing each other but then not really because they aren't putting their elbows on the table either so I guess, yeah, it really doesn't have any rational value. It probably just pissed somebody off and they made it into a huge issue and now it's a standard. Whatever.

For gosh sake, if you want to put your elbows on the table when you're eating, put your elbows on the table. If anyone objects, tell 'em you are a Shakespearean actor and that in Will's time people ate not with forks but wooden spoons--with elbows on the table.

Basic table manners:
For informal dining situations, it's okay to rest an elbow on the table if you're not actually eating. But, if you're eating, then only rest the forearm or wrist on the edge of the table. One doesn't want to be hunched over their food. At formal functions, no elbows on the dining table.

It's just a posture thing. There is no real, good reason, and I do it all the time. I eat with my elbows sort of wide on the table, so fork-to-plate-to-mouth isn't an issue.

If your elbows are on the table, and you are holding a fork or a knife in your hand just right, and you turn your head one way or the other, you just might stab yourself in the eye, causing all kinds of nasty, unsightful things going on at the table while others are trying to eat and enjoy their food. And that's just not good manners, mister! :)

Feel free and just do it
And if someone asked you not to do that then you can stare in his/her eyes and say :
"Give me one good reason why I cant put my elbows on the table when I'm eating? "
That way you'll definitly get your answer

LOL, don't see why this is religion and spirituality...but I do recall arguing with my mom about this one (among many other silly rules of "etiquette" she tried to teach me) and she never gave me a rational reason so, like many of the other "rules" like this, I just ignored it!
Of course, if you're at a summer camp, you might get to hear that lovely song (sung to the tune of "if you're happy and you know it, clap your hands)...
"Get your elbows off the table,
Get your elbows off the table,
We have told you once or twice that it isn't very nice,
Get your elbows off the table, .
That one worked for me!

you might get weird answers because you put this in religious and spiritual section and not somewhere else
i do it all the time. it provides stabability so i don't contantly spill food *cough*
but it's also true that you could knock things over, or have a careless fork incident
