that we cant evolve unless we kill all the idiots (hence the darwin award) and anyone that has any major thinking problems
because evolution takes survival of the fittest, and if you arent smart enough to survive these days, you have all those people out there draging you around like they actually have to...

Some stupid peole remove themselves from the gene pool via missadventure.
The rest breed themsevles silly in the hope that 1 of there offspring can rise from the pit of despair and may 1 day obtain a guest spot on Springer.

The great thing about survival of the fittest is that you don't have to help it, it's all automatic. If an individual is unfit, either too dumb or otherwise inadequate, then they won't be able to survive (or breed, same results). If they live and have kids, then they are fit, by definition.
Directing evolution, by selective breeding, gene manipulation, or culling the herd, is a dangerous thing. See almost any sci-fi story for examples of how it could go horribly, horribly wrong.
I would say that maybe we shouldn't be helping the less adequate quite as much as we do. But a pro-active aproach is just too much.

Actually, survival of the fittest defies the idea of macro-evolution--evolution needs mutations to survive and breed. In nature, mutations do not breed but are naturally shunned as being unfit. Imagine that!

Well, yes, but once we were stupid about something and so we ought to allow others their right to be stupid as well. This is a hard thing but it is after all the truth. Before you learned to do math, you were ignorant of it. Before you learned to read and write, you were ignorant of it. Not all people are born with the same measure of sense, common sense, and ability to think rationally. Some people who think rationally amongst themselves are convinced that another group who thinks rationally amongst themselves think irrationally so there is no way to end this. We only need to deal with it compassionately.

That's pretty harsh, and we don't really have to deal with survival of the fittest anymore, because we dominate the earth, and thus protect the ones who cannot survive because we care for our own kin.
