I have a chocolate lab who will be 4 in November. She is currently on her fifth ovulation cycle. We were originally going to breed her, but recently decided not to. Is it too late to fix her? If so, when will she stop ovulating?

A s long as she is healthy she can be spayed. Once spayed then that will end all heat cycles and she will never ovulated again.

Call your vet and make an appointment to have the spay done.

It is never to late to have your pet spayed or neutered. It sounds like you mean her heat cycle, during a dogs heat cycle they ovulate and are fertile and ready to be bred for a few days usually in the middle of it...wait till her bleeding has stopped and swelling has gone away on her privates, then get her spayed. The heat cycle generally lasts 3 weeks start to finish, some dogs are a little longer some shorter. You can make your appointment now for her spay for a couple weeks time.

its not too late to spay. Many reputable breeders retire their females around age 5-7 and get them spayed.

She will stop ovulating as soon as she's spayed. Spay surgury removes the uterus and ovaries.

Its a good idea to have her spayed, I think she is a little too old now to consider a first litter, plus spaying prevents certain types of cancers and also prevents serious and deadly uterine infections.

No, it is not too late to have her spayed and it is still beneficial to her health and to you, meaning you won't have to deal with her seasons any longer or the danger of an unwanted pregnancy. Dogs do not go through 'menopause' but, often, their seasons will become less frequent as they get into their senior years. I know of females having puppies at age 10.

You should get her spayed..by being left intact so long she is already at greater risk for mammary cancer and pyometria.
Call your vet and set up an appointment for her for @ a month from now.
