Well it depends what kind of TV! If its pretty old then they tend to get hot at the back more than Tv's now a days that just get hot on the plug. But my Nan's cat used to lay on top of a heater and its tail caught fire........ that was a struggle putting it out!
He'll get bored of laying there eventually... buy a nice new table cloth or sofa... then he'll suddenly find that interesting and ruin it with hairs etc.... like mine does!!

i've only looked at the first few answers and it seems that people are telling you that it will be fine for your cat to lie on top of your tv.......think about it, your tv like many other electrical equipment, has got vents for letting out the heat which i would imagine is why your cat likes lying there so much. failure to let the heat escape can result in your tv overheating which in most cases will break your tv or in some cases cause a fire, but in this case there is an increased chance of fire due to your cat's fur going through the vent slots. if your cat is a bit partial to a warm resting place there are fleece beds which hook onto your radiators that you can buy.

So long as the cat is not covering any air ventilation slots on your telly then it should not cause any problems, the cat may get a little warm but I don't think it will catch fire!!!!!!

They often spray in the rear of TVs, this is corrosive to the panels & ruins the set. In addition many insurance companys will not pay out as they deem it a delibirate act by the cat.
Not forgeting the danger to your beloved pet due to electricition.
This is very common.

shouldnt have thought so, our cat used to do it all the time, its cos it is warm, if you are worried tho you can get cat sleepers that hang over radiators which should convince the cat not to sleep on the telly

May be good to discourage him from lying over the vents.

Your cat may be seeking warmth or like to have all eyes on him. It is doubtful that he will burst into flames.
