if i get photoshop and lets say.. im standing against the wall, can i get the background of the wall behind me away and put like a sunset or something behind me??

Yes you can, and pretty easily (you need to learn to make a decent selection and to use layers and masks), but to make it look accurate or refined, you're gonna have to practice. Start by doing the tutorials within the program... then later learn on www.retouchpro.com
goodluck. Photoshop is really the best program ever! But it's not esp. easy. Unless you are trying to do this professionally Photoshop elements might be better.
