if so, how is that different from Christian Scientists who refuse medical treatment for their children?

I guess you just made the case for the child in abortion cases. But would you also agree that the people who believe in abortion are religious?

How could you believe the government should be consistent? In Houston, you didn't have to say the pledge to the American flag but could get suspended for not pledging the Mexican flag.

Probably not. It would not pass the reasonableness test, as in "within reason."

During Prohibition, the Catholic Church was exempt and was allowed to use wine during Mass. The small amount of wine used during Mass was "within reason."
