My neighbors (2 adults, 2 teenagers) really like to blast loud basssy music, usually when the adults are gone.I am only able to get peace when I hide away in the room farthest from our connecting wall. I have gone over there 5 times since I have moved in here (a month ago) to ask them to turn it down politely, which they do, but then the next day the music starts up again. I have noticed it is the worst when the parents are gone and it's just the 2 teenagers. Should I take it up with management, or should I try talking it over with the parents?

I can really relate to you. I have been dealing with an obnoxious noise problem here for 11 years and where my home is located I am surrounded by extreme noise on a regular basis.

I call the police all the time sometimes up to 8 or 9 times and do not have to tell them your name. you can leave your phone # in case they need to call you back and ask if you still need them or if it was turned down after they came out.

I live in Los Angeles and My neighbors are from El Savador and Mexico. I am surrounded by two apartment complexes and three houses that play loudly especially one in particular.

No ear plugs or talking does any good. The police dispatchers say the more you keep calling the better and now they keep a record and incident numbers.

I have tried to deal with the Mayors office, police department and my council person's office.

Moving if you have that kind of money may or may not help because this is a growing problem that no one can stop. I was told never try to talk to them because if you have to later call the police then they know who called and that could put you in danger.

Ask for a Senior lead officer and keep dates and times and the dispatcher's operator # . Some area's have a party patrol also there is noise enforcement w/ the police dept. Sometimes there is illegal activities going on or night clubs (in the house).

There have been times friends of mine even called in. Sometimes I wish I could Hire the local school band to give them a taste of their own medicine but that would only disturb the innocent neighbors. Good luck hopefully this information can help you or someone else.

How horrible. Make multiple anon calls to the police. There is likely a noise ordinance. If that doesn't work, see if the management will relocate you. Meanwhile, wear earplugs or play rather loudly music or tv to stifle the resentment for their completely ignoring you. Also, this is probably nonsense but throw a handfull of salt on their door step - it's supposed to make people move away!!!! yay!!

I had a noisy upstairs neighbor in an apt once and I felt like sleeping in my car. The walls and ceiling were paper thin and I could hear every phone ring, conversation, and foot steps and stomps. I would bang on the ceiling with a broom stick. CRAZY!!! I hated it. The ironic part is that your peace is the last thing on the the noise makers' minds. They are having fun while you are stewing to a boil.

Good luck!!!!!!!

If you have already gone over when the parents were there, then it probably wouldn't do you much good talking to them again.
If your management company handles complaints promptly, then I would mention it to them. (I know that the management company I have, complaints often fall on deaf ears). If management contacts the parents about the problem (there may even be a fine attached to repeat offenses) hopefully they will then take it seriously and the noise will stop.
If all else fails call the police with a noise complaint.
I know it is hard in these situations where you are trying to be a good neighbor, but your sanity and comfort in your own home comes first.. and obviously they are not interested in good neighbor behavior.

Management first.

Cops after that.

But don't call 911--look up the non-emergency number and call that.

They'll take much longer to get there, but you know it's not an emergency, just incredibly annoying. Plus, if you have to wait, you can tell the police, "they were playing their music for two hours while I was waiting."

And get a noise machine--muffles the sound while you're waiting for the cops.

I feel your pain--I have neighbors who scream at each other out in the yard (!) and have dogs who bark-bark-bark all day and night. Like I want to hear them arguing at top volume...

but try to be positive about it, protect yourself from the noise because they may always try to break the rules and shatter your peace and if you have to deal with it, you'll deal with it better if you're not as stressed out. So music, windchimes, an indoor fountain, earplugs, a noise machine...do something to counteract the noise in a positive way.

If you have already talked to the parents. Do NOT take up up the the parents, might create a fight. Take it up with management. If that does not seem to work after a couple of weeks, call the cops. Noise violation.
Some managements have a policy that if someone has been reported to the police so many times, they will risk being evicted.
~good luck

Forget the nice guy approach. I don't know where you live, but in some countries that can easily be classified as a breach of peace, especially if it happens after 12:00 p.m. Simply call the police, especially if you have tried reasoning with the culprits already.

I have the same problem every Friday night, its an on-going battle, I feel your pain and wish you the best of luck!

It is a damn shame when you cannot have peace in your own home. Use any means necessary to get those idiots to back off. You have already talked to them, next try management, if that does not work, use code compliance authorities or even the cops. This is a horrible type of pollution and no one should have to be assaulted by music they do not want to hear.

Yes. Your paying rent and if the management fails to queit them down, both the management and the neighbors are at fault and both are breaking rules in the lease. Most leases always contain a part where it talks about loud noise, check out the fine print of lease and bring your grievance to management.

Talk to the parents first. If it continues, talk to management. If that doesn't help, start calling the police to establish a police log of your complaints. Then eventually you will be able to get a restraining order or other court order to prohibit them from playing the music above certain volumes or between certain hours.

talk it over with the parents first. if that does not resolve anything send them a letter explaining your intent to take it up with the management if no peacable solution can be found.

then take it up with the management..

read your lease. most lease agreements will state the renter's responsibilities. and most of them state a Clean and livable enviroment.

loud music preventing you from enjoying your enviroment is not livable. thus management is bound to rectify the situation...

if this does not work call a noise disturbance into the cops.

me i fight fire with fire. or noise with louder noise....

i used to have noisy neighbours. however i have another way of handeling that.. they play rap music on their boom box so loud that i can hear it over my TV.

I play Les Miserables (classic musical) over my pro studio system so loud that the cannon fire rattles crap off of their shelves. (but then again, i am an a**hole. you probably want to be as kind and respectful as you can)
