I was looking up some issues that have been raised - that it would apply to anyone of whatever age now and to a million or more rather than to the thousands currently traditional 'college aged' and to make sure certain things slipped in the boiler plate of the Senate Immigration Bill aren't being slipped in, but found that the text had not yet been submitted. Since he has had A Dream act bouncing around for years now, why not?
His amendment is SA 2237. The bill is H.R. 1585. Does anyone know anything more about the actual text?

dogtricks, I will look into what you say about STRIVE. Yes, the dream act (or a version) was in that too, but that came up for hearings a week ago and I believe it was shelved. Things can't pass without a vote, and it was still in committee. I will check to see if that changed though, because that spector you raise is alarming.
Petey, I just am trying to find it to read it. The Senate Bill had all sorts of poison in the boilerplate that they never reported in the press, and I want to make sure this isn't like that. It is the defense bill, so hopefully they have more sense??

I joined one of the grassroots organizations to keep up with all the political dealings on this topic, its simply too hard to do on your own. I have tried to find out more about this attempt at the DREAM Act from their experts but they don't seem to know any more than we do about the actual wording. More back room deals and secret handshake policies between our legislators. I wonder why the American public has a record low opinion of our leaders?
Quietly attaching it to the Defense bill is also a nasty little trick BUT unfortunately not surprising.
EDIT:
Also the addition (or expected addition) of increasing the H1B and H2B visas to this bill AFTER earlier this year holding meetings and the subsequent admission of abuse under these visas is insane.

Ok, go to the Thomas.loc.gov site, search for HR1585.
The list provides a few options, choose the one that is placed on the SENATE CALENDAR.
Once on the Bill's page, choose "Bill summary and status," then on the next page choose amendments.
you have to hit forward to get to #254 on the list which is SA. 2237, submitted by Durbin.
Once you click on there you can go to the actual text as reported on the congressional record. This is the text as submitted this time around and what will be debated in the senate. There is no sense at looking at other legislation.
BOTH links if the work, take you directly to the text.

i like the section approximately how they had to be right here 5 years. What a humorous tale! on a similar time as extremely you would be waiting to checklist that some undocumented aliens have been right here that long, how precisely do you identify conclusively for all that would desire to teach if somebody that would not exist on the books has definitely been right here for further acceptable than an afternoon? Do you in actuality take their be unsleeping? ought to or no longer that's racist or profiling in case you asked the guy 2 cases, "Are you specific you have been right here for 5 years?" i'm in a position to truly see an activist team assisting out the government in "documenting" those circumstances. Reid is a humorous tale and is incredibly utilizing this to choose that his attraction to the left could be adequate to counter some thing that are tired of illegals abusing the gadget in Nevada and distinctive states, incredibly the SW states.

Well looking at the answers you received my guess is that only one makes sense. The one in which the STRIVE act is mentioned. If in fact they have decided to go about forcing this upon the American citizens after we have already spoken time, and time again, by not acting on it in 60 days, and it becomes automatically a law. They ended up still getting it passed without any actual votes on it, or over-site from the American citizens. That kind of governing just pisses me off all that much more. Because all of this takes place before any of them are actually up for re-election. It also then explains to me why some are not going to run for their seats again in 2008 too.
We've already ready drawn the line at where our expenses now over-ride our incomes. And they are still not hearing that. Or rather they are and because they have such fat bank accounts, and free health care , etc... they really do care less about the American people who are struggling, and those who are on their way who begin to struggle.
Well this time it's back to the emails, faxes, and phones to get them off their asses to take that action before the 60 days are up, and still have the Dream Act fail.

I was reading that Durbin made changes adding an age limit or trying to scrap the instate part so more people would vote for it...
I believe the new age limit is 30 years old...not the 45 some people write about
I think people dont have problem with the military option part but the automatic instate...

They are trying to sneak in the back door, what they are unable to bring in the front door. What is most reprehensible is that the American people spoke up loud and clear that until our borders and ports are secured we want no amnesty and any kind.

I'm going to start calling my senators tommorrow morning!
Man, didn't they get the message in June when we broke their phone system?
I have a "Dream" too!
My "Dream" is that my govt starts stricktly enforcing our immigration laws, does away with "Anchor Baby Citizenship", and begins deporting 20 million illegal aliens like we're PAYING them to do!

I haven't heard about that, but you can find more info about the so-called "Dream Act," at NumbersUSA. Of course, NumbersUSA is strongly against the Act, as I am. I wouldn't mind allowing a small number of illegal aliens to get special rates at American colleges, but not all of them! It is really an amnesty bill in disguise.
You can send a fax opposing the DREAM Act amnesty and H-1B/H-2B Visa Increases by going to NumbersUSA – http://www.numbersusa.com

My guess would be to get it passed before anyone has a real chance to shoot it down.Also...Maybe I'm wrong but isn't some of that in the STRIVE Act?Because if you notice on STRIVE it says if they don't act in, I believe I read 60 days, it automatically passes? Is that correct or am I getting other things mixed up?I read too much lately.LOL
