Whats the point of having curtains if you have roller blinds. They both do the same job?

Its a matter of choice. Although some people think that curtains are warmer if the room is fairly draughty. Roller blinds I think are much tidier looking and better. Also some people prefer curtains as they make the room much darker. Its all according to taste.

There is such a thing as curtains that help insulate your home. They keep cold air from coming in as much from the windows. We looked into some curtains for that very purpose, and to cut our heating bill in the winter. We also have blind which are much nicer in the summer.

i agree it seems quite pointless

but i think people have curtains because it 'dresses' the window whereas just the blinds are a bit plain


also the curtains can be drawn to give a bit more warmth in the winter

personally though i would just have the blinds

For me blinds are a way to create privacy and drapes are only for the sides to soften and add color. I have never actually put up a drape that draws across a window because I think it's too heavy a look. But if you prefer drapes that draw, then you don't need blinds. And if you don't care about softening the look or adding color, then blinds by themselves are fine for you. It's a design choice.

Also, depending on the kind of blinds, some of them let in light and you may need curtains OVER them to block light even more.

I agree with you but some people like curtains too cos the look is softer. Some people who live in houses with draughty windows prefer to have curtains too.

hmm well i think curtains are better as they just look nicer and they make a room look cozy, yes thats a woman thing i suppose. Roller blinds are better in bathrooms and kitchens.

In the main decorative. In colder weather they can be closed for extra insulation. If you buy some make sure you get the correct width in order the close curtains, if and when necessary.

i have both because its nice on winter evenings to close curtains as well feels cozyer plus it looks better and they block out the light in the mornings

it looks bare without curtains, plus they keep the cold out, l have vertical blinds and curtains.
