it depends on if the weight loss plateau is actually that. many people rapidly lose weight the first 2 weeks of a new diet. this weight is from excess water that is excreted as stored nutrients are metabolized for energy fat loss hasn't even begun at this point. it can take a good 3-4 weeks on a balanced diet and training program before actual fat loss begins. this is why tracking the body fat is far more important than numbers on a scale. decreasing numbers on a scale do not indicate "where" the loss of weight is occurring. most people don't track the body fat and this is one of many reasons why most fail at dieting and at making drastic changes to the body composition.
