I have to do a speech for my communications class about an important experience or event in my life and its impact on me. i chose to talk about going through my parent's divorce when i was younger. i want to show how the divorce helped me for the better. i believed it help me become more independent and driven. but i need some more ideas. In one word (or a deeper explanation if you want) what has going through a divorce made you??... (my ex: independent, driven..)

Now, my parents divorced when I was 1 1/2 so I don't remember it. However, I believe that because they seperated, it has let me get closer to each of them as individuals. I have learned what being a good parent means, even if that means your marriage has to end. Its not much but its what I have gotten from my parents split.

I'm theorizing, not speaking from experience;-}
but children often blame themselves for parent's problems.
Getting through a divorce, & surviving, they realize it's not
about them. Both parent's love them, but have problems.
So (some) learn to be more independent & self-reliant.

My parent's divorce allowed me to have better relationships with each of them as individuals.
