I asked a friend of mine this question who is on this medication, and this is what he said:

I have been taking Cybalta for a year now. I started out on 30mg, it helped depression and anxiety, but I was still a little cloudy in my thinking. I 'm taking it for depression and anxiety, and had gotten to the point that I couldn't complete a sentence because I couldn't remember any words. Any way, after about 6 months on the 30mg, I was bumped up to 60 mg. I was such an improvement in my life. I am clear headed and alert, and I can even sleep most of the time. However, in the last 3to 4 months, I have gained 20 pounds. It is a carb thing. I noticed after I went to the 60 mg. I remember telling my doctor that I had a sudden intense craving for sweets. This is not good, because I am a personal trainer. So I work out everyday, and I have put on 20 pounds. My doc thinks I should take this for 4 more years, but that is not going to happen. If I don't take a pill, I go through total withdrawl about 12 hours later. I am dizzy, then nausious, then headache. It wont end until about 5 hours after I take the next pill. So I'd say it works, but it has it's price.

According to the web site for Cymbalta it is not listed as one of the side effects, however, I have been on it for a year and I have gained weight, about 20 lbs. However, I wouldn't go off of it for that reason. Prior to taking cymbalta I was having major pain in my back (associated with depression) and then problems with concentration, etc. Within 2 weeks on Cymbalta I felt so much better and the pain is gone!

I have gained weight since I started taking Cymbalta. I have constant food cravings since beginning it and have put on at least 20 pounds in 2 years. The main craving is for sweets even after eating a full healthy meal. It's very effective for decreasing pain, but I'm not sure it has helped with depression.

I started taking it almost a year ago for chronic neck and back pain. It helped with my neck, but not my back. Over the past 6 months I have gained 20 pounds due to the cravings for cupcakes, cake, pies, cookies, etc. not only that, I am hungry all the time! I was never like that before and am planning on weaning myself off of it due to the weight gain.

No, I have been taking this med for almost 2 years my weight has gone up or down depending on where I am in my cycle and how much I am working out, the same as it was before I was on this med.
