No, how putting wood in oil hardens it.

If you're talking about oil FINISHING,
organic oils like tung oil and linseed oil
are rubbed into the wood surface and
allowed to oxidize. Kind of like oil paint
with no pigment, a protective layer forms.
(It's a bit more complicated, and some skill
in removing wood 'whiskers` that are raised
by the process is required.)

Im not sure i understand your question. How does oil thicken? Oil thickness is called its viscocity. The colder it is the thicker it gets, the hotter it is the thinner it gets.
