Book all travel in your maiden name NOT your married name. It is not only an issue with passport, but driver's license/ID and credit cards. Do the name change when you get back. I wouldn't go carrying your marriage certificate around with you, and that always won't be available immediately after you get married anyway.

I was worried about that too but it's no problem. The airline and customs will just want to see your marriage certificate. Be sure to put it in a very safe place (you might even want to put it in a ziploc bag) so you don't lose it!!!
Another tip: Before your wedding day, make photocopies of any credit cards (front AND back because that's where the 1-800 number is), your driver's license, passport, airline and hotel reservations. Make 1 copy and give it to someone you TRUST who is very reliable, like your parents or a best friend. Also, take 1 copy with you and do not keep it in the same place as the originals. This way, if you get in a bind, have something stolen, etc....then you are just a phone call away from help. So many people get credit cards stolen and then when they go to report it, they realize they never wrote down the 1-800 number on the back of the card! :)

Your name doesn't change instantly after you are married. You have to go to the DMV and social security to change it. You will still have your maiden name on your honeymoon so it won't be a problem. You book all travel in your maiden name and when you get back you go through the name change process. Your marriage certificate has to be filed with the local government so even that wouldn't be ready for like a week after the wedding anyway. That is what you will take to the dmv & soc. sec. to change your name.

Your air line ticket will be in your maiden name. So I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Just to be safe you might want to bring a copy(not the real one. Just in case you lose it.) of your marriage licenses. The girl with the credit card info had a good idea. I would only bring one or two credit cards though just in case they are stolen. I'm going to Cancun next year for my honeymoon. I hope you have a wonderful time on your honeymoon and a wonderful WONDERFUL wedding and life together.

Not a problem at all. My travel agent explained to me that all newly weds will go through this with their passports. You won't have time to change it after your married so wait until after the honeymoon to get your name changed on it.
Don't worry and have a great time!

Yes it will be. The best thing to do to ensure that you encounter as little hassle as possible is to keep everything in your maiden name until after you return. All of your identification, your plane ticket, etc. should have your maiden name on it. You can't change these things until after you're married anyway, and you won't be able to get it done before you leave for the honeymoon. Have your fiance make your honeymoon hotel or resort reservations in his name with his credit card, that way there's no hassle about names not matching and you still get to bask in the glow of your newlywed-dom. :-)

You wait to change your name until you return from the honeymoon. Passport, tickets, etc must all be in the same name, your maiden name . . . as you will not have time to change your identification to your married name before the honeymoon.

Save yourself a lot of brain damage and travel under the same name as your passport. The last thing you want to do on your honeymoon is get held up in a foreign airport by some petty bureaucrat who speaks limited English and whose marching orders are boarding pass must match passport.

Take your marriage certificate that shows the name change. I also think that you passport agency can change the name if given time. Check with your local post office to make sure.

I'm sure this happens often. Just bring your signed wedding certificate and your passport and you should be fine.
