& then they tell me, worry about getting better & ignore the diagnosis. I think that's a bunch of bull! How don't I have a right to know my diagnosis, so that I CAN get better? My doctor is trying to diagnose me with bipolar because I say I'm irritable. But my irritability is part of my anxiety disorder. & then she said, "If the temper tantrums continue, let me know." What temper tantrums? Irritability doesn't equal temper tantrums.

Your psychiatrist is a fraud. She doesn't know what you have and she just chooses to guess. Next time you're there ask her what other doctors she has consulted on this. Listen carefully to HOW she answers rather than what she says. Then find another doctor. Get a referral, but not from her.

Understand that in the mental health business, approximately 80% off those 'professionals' are frauds. I am lucky in that my doc is one of the 20%. He doesn't have any problem saying to me, "I don't know. Let me go and find the answer to your question." The frauds have all the answers. That's how you can who they are.

The temper tantrums are probably not the problem. They are a symptom of the problem. A competent practioner can help you find what you are looking for. They are out there but since they are only 1 out of every 5, you will have to look hard. Good luck.

No, irritability does not equal "temper tantrums", but doctors tend to call it "inappropriate anger." Bear in mind that many disorders do share the same symptoms and perhaps you should find a doctor who is more familiar with the myriad with mood/anxiety disorders out there so that every time you in to see him/her you're not anxious one week, bipolar the next, borderline personality the next (BTW, borderline and bipolar share a few symptoms), especially since a lot of medications out there can make many of these conditions worse, especially in combination

It sounds as if your psychiatrist was absent the day they taught LISTENING at school. If she cannot listen to you, then how can she help. Even I know that irritability is a symptom, NOT a diagnosis.

Hopefully you will be able to change therapists soon. Maybe you could throw a temper tantrum. LOL

Get another psychiatrist!

Also, in fairness, note that bipolar type II can be difficult to distinguish from depression with agitated/irritable anxiety until the hypomania becomes more predominant. But, only 1-2% of the population has BP, so odds aren't very high. It just seems to be the popular diagnosis this year.

Btw, the diagnosis really has virtually no bearing beyond identifying the right meds and insurance billing. Try not to get hung up on it. You got what you got regardless of label.

I changed my psychiatrist 4 times to be 100% sure about my diagnosis as a bipolar. Psychiatrists are not into conversation that much but try to find one that you can connect and one that prioritizes the patient rather than his/her money.

The only way I know to get an accurate diagnosis is to have psychological testing done. Like the MMPI (Minnesota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory)

I was diagnosed with Bi-polar, which I do NOT have. They gave me the wrong medicine and since I didn't need it, it forever destroyed my thyroid.

Good luck.

Peace.

yea a lot of doctors want to push anti-depressants on people..it's ridiculous...you need to find a new doctor if that is possible...
and you are right about the anxiety...you need to find a doctor that will focus on helping you with your anxiety b/c it seems this doctor is trying to really piss you off and make you angry just so he can prove his "point"...
